HEALING AND SERVICE |
The Great Work is not concerned only with our own development. What we learn, cultivate, and experience through the Work also gives us opportunities to serve others and contribute something meaningful beyond ourselves.
Healing has long held an important place within the Rosicrucian and Golden Dawn traditions, and it remains an active part of the work of the GDCSS. Through ritual, prayer, and magical practice, members come together to offer healing, comfort, and support to those who have asked to be included in our work.
Service may take many forms, but its foundation is simple: what we receive through the Work should ultimately become something we are capable of giving.
Healing as Service
Healing has long been associated with the Rosicrucian current that forms part of the Golden Dawn tradition. Among the principles traditionally attributed to the Brotherhood of the Rosy Cross was the obligation to heal without seeking payment, establishing service to others as an important expression of the Work.
Within the Neophyte initiation, the Hierophant declares:
I come in the Power of Light
I come in the Light of Wisdom
I come in the Mercy of the Light
The Light hath Healing in its Wings
These words are more than a description of the Light the initiate seeks. They also carry a responsibility. As our knowledge and ability develop, we are called to become capable of extending that Light beyond ourselves through wisdom, mercy, healing, and service.
Within the GDCSS, healing therefore remains a living part of the Work. It is not separated from magical and spiritual development, but understood as one of the ways that development may ultimately be placed in service to others.
Our Healing Work
On the first Sunday of each month, the Adepti of the GDCSS perform a Magical Healing Eucharist for those who have requested healing, comfort, or spiritual support. Additional healing work is performed throughout the month, and petitions may be submitted for members and nonmembers alike.
When the Healing Eucharist is opened to the public, visitors interested in the GDCSS may attend and experience Golden Dawn ritual within a Temple setting. Members may also invite interested friends and family, making the ceremony one of the ways our healing work extends beyond the membership of the Order.
Anyone may submit a healing petition for themselves or for someone they care about. There is no requirement to be a member of the GDCSS or a practitioner of the Golden Dawn to be included in our healing work.
Service as Part of the Work
Service within the GDCSS extends beyond our organized healing work. As initiates develop their knowledge, abilities, and experience, they are encouraged to consider how what they have gained through the Work may also be used for the benefit of others.
This may take many forms. Members contribute by supporting other initiates, teaching and sharing what they have learned, participating in Order projects, and offering their individual skills where they can be of service. The GDCSS also periodically supports charitable organizations and causes whose work provides meaningful assistance to others.
Not every member will serve in the same way, nor is service measured by position or grade. We benefit from the knowledge, guidance, and work of those who came before us and those who walk beside us. In turn, each of us has opportunities to contribute something of our own and carry that Light outward.
Request Healing
Our healing work is available to members and nonmembers alike. Anyone may submit a petition for themselves or for someone they care about to be included in the healing work of the GDCSS.
There is no fee to submit a healing request, and no affiliation with the Order is required. Petitions are included in our ongoing healing work, including the Magical Healing Eucharist performed by the Adepti on the first Sunday of each month.
